How Fit do You need to be to join the RAF ?
What you need to pass the RAF Fitness test
All of the branches of the military require their manpower to be at an acceptable fitness standard. The Royal Air Force is no different. Fitness is a key indication of how dedicated you are and also how much you are investing in your own health and in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Once you have achieved the levels required for your bleep test, sit ups and press ups. You should always aim to be above these. During your future career in the RAF you will now do the Fitness test Bi annually and be expected to go past the level and go on and do your own max level.
Basically, stop the bleep test when you feel that you cannot do any more. You will do all manner of PT in the RAF including swimming. So you should aim to be a good all-rounder.
Remember the harder you train before joining up. The easier you will find basic training and less likely you will sustain an injury during training. Your body is placed under a lot of stress for those 9 weeks of basic training, if you can maintain your fitness and stamina throughout training you will make passing basic training a lot easier.
Once you are in the RAF you will have many opportunities to play sports and to use the gymnasium for free. All RAF stations even on ops will have some form of gym for you to use.
Many Airmen/ Airwomen take time away from work and actually get paid to play sport. Either by playing for the station or sometimes for the RAF in the Tri-services competitions.
